New in Paperback: “American Sirens: The Incredible Story of the Black Men Who Became America’s First Paramedics” by Kevin Hazzard
Fun Fact: The first paramedics in the United States were black men in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In “American Sirens,” Kevin Hazzard gives a full history of how this group of men came together to find a way to save lives by providing emergency medical services for their community.
Book-Related News: The notorious plane hijacker D.B. Cooper may have been from Pittsburgh?
Popular Mechanics is reporting that the infamous plane hijacker, D.B. Cooper, may have been from the Pittsburgh area. Eric Ulis traced pieces of material found on the tie Cooper left behind on the plane back to the Crucible Steel Company. Ulis believes that a Pittsburgh-based engineer who died in 2002 is a strong suspect in the decades-old mystery.
