What’s summer without a summer reading challenge? Well, we think that it would be pretty boring. So, without any further ado, here is our 2021 Summer Reading Challenge:
“Reading is fundamental, but it also can be fun.”
What we’re going for with our Summer Reading Challenge is to give you ideas about what to read and to encourage you to read a broad assortment of books this summer. If you’re pressed for time and happen to find one book that meets more than one category? Go for it! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Reading is supposed to be a form of entertainment; not a chore. Reading is fundamental, but it also can be fun.
Fun for all ages!
Much like the Slinky toy, our Summer Reading Challenge is fun for all ages. For parents, it’s a great way to get your kids reading and learning at the same time. Especially the books about picking up a new hobby or skill (I dare any bored child to not find an interesting book from the Klutz line).
Don’t be afraid to get creative
If you’re stuck on what hobby or new skill to pick up, don’t forget that gardening and cooking are hobbies. Never got around to using that Instant Pot you picked up back in 2017? Grab an Instant Pot Cookbook. It counts. Not sure about a funny book and you’re a child of the 80s? Well, R.L. Stine has a series of Garbage Pail Kids books. Too busy to read? Audiobooks count for our challenge. So do kids’ books. I read children’s books all the time and not just because my job requires it.
Our recommended Summer Reads
To help point you in the right direction, we’ve put together a few recommended books for each category of the challenge.
- Biographies
- Adult Fiction
- Business Books
- History
- Humor
- Puzzles and Memory
- Self-Improvement
- Politics and Hot Topics
- Sports, Crafts, and Hobbies
- Fiction for Kids
- Nonfiction for Kids
- Young Adult
But, with the way my bank account is set up….
We always love it when people buy books from us. It keeps the bills paid, etc. But, we always encourage our community to use and support their local libraries. The vast majority of books we recommend are available at local libraries. And if you aren’t aware of the ebook and audiobook resources your library has available, now is a really good time to find out!
