From a story book about spelling to the history of the owner of the infamous “Crazy Eddie’s” bargain electronic retail chain, here are our must-read books for the week of August 21st:
For Kids
“My Pet Feet” by Josh Funk, illustrated by Billy Yong
Lea says: “This is going to be a story time favorite. It’s a fun introduction to spelling for kids and it’s clever enough to keep the grown folks chuckling.”
For Grown Folks
“The Mamas: What I Learned About Kids, Class, and Race from Moms Not Like Me” by Helena Andrews-Dyer
Lea says: “I always love getting into a book that offers people insight into someone else’s perspective, so I was admittedly drawn to this book. ‘The Mamas’ gives great insight into how a high-achieving Black mom fits in with the mothers in her community.”
For Law Nerds
“Democratic Justice: Felix Frankfurter, the Supreme Court, and the Making of the Liberal Establishment” by Brad Snyder
Lea says: “Don’t accept the conclusions about Supreme Court justices and the history/evolution of legal movements that you’re getting from analysts and professors. This book goes a long way in offering a historical perspective on Justice Felix Frankfurter and the liberal wing of the US Supreme Court.”
IYKYK
“Retail Gangster: The INSANE, Real-Life Story of Crazy Eddie” by Gary Weiss
Lea says: “Anyone who spent any significant amount of time in the New York area in the 70s, 80s, or 90s will understand why I picked this.”
