Summer vacation has just started, but we’re willing to bet that some kids have already started mentioning that they’re bored. To help out, we’ve put together some activity books and summer reading ideas for kids.
How we do things in our house
In our family, we take a pretty laid-back approach to summer vacations. Instead of having scheduled activities and playdates, we give our kids the same, unstructured summers that we had growing up. Instead of telling them what to do and when to do it, we stock up on crafts and activity books and leave it to them to figure out how to fill their days.
How the DIY Summer Camp works
Every week, we’ll have a different theme. The book recommendations and activities will all be connected to the theme. Some of the connections are going to be a wee bit more tenuous than others, but we’re going to make it work.
Reading Lists
The reading lists are clickable catalogs. When you tap on the book, it will send you to Hoopla. Hoopla is a digital media provider for local libraries and offers a wide assortment of books, audiobooks, movies, songs, and virtual courses.
Activity Books
The activity books will include cut and pastes, dot marker coloring sheets, mazes, drawing practice, and more.
